sunn O))) – sunn o)))
You can’t spell “drone metal” without Sunn O))). How do you even describe their music? It’s the sound of the cosmic axis shifting; the song of colossal monoliths moving in real time. It makes sense that their tenth album – and first for Sub Pop – is simply called Sunn O))): It’s their first full-length in almost thirty years as a band that was recorded without any guest musicians, making it a definitive statement of what Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson are at their core. Embellishing their wall of sound with field recordings and wrapping it in artwork by Mark Rothko, the duo delivers everything fans could wish for.
Poison Ruin – Hymns From The Hills
Our favorite dungeon punks are back with their third album: Hymns From The Hills shows Poison Ruin at their most versatile and ambitious, yet never losing their primal gut-punch quality in the process. From some of their catchiest (Lily Of The Valley) to some of their heaviest (Eidolon) and dreamiest (Howls From The Citadel) songs, mastermind Mac Kennedy leads the group deeper into medieval fantasy realms that serve as proxies for real-life struggles.

Basement – Wired
It was never just a phase: Over the course of 15 years, Basement have moved from promising post-hardcore newcomers to one of the most beloved alternative rock bands Great Britain has to offer. Ending their eight-year release hiatus, the group reconnects with the unpolished, instantaneous nature of their earlier years on their new album Wired – a record capturing unburdened joy, blissful nostalgia and youthful energy.

Frozen Soul – No Place Of Warmth
You have to be a special band to get My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way to feature on one of your songs, and Frozen Soul evidently are. They’re one of the most celebrated death metal acts of the 2020s, and their third album No Place Of Warmth once again shows us why. With their sinister, frigid, hardcore-tinged songs, the Texans turn the skies black and the world into an icy, hostile wasteland. Definitely the right album to cool down this summer.
Ecca Vandal – Looking For People To Unfollow
When Ecca Vandal released her viral song Cruising To Self Soothe in 2025, she was celebrated as a new fave for fans of Turnstile. What many people didn’t know: The singer and rapper already released a successful debut album in 2017. Her follow-up Looking For People To Unfollow develops her unique artistic language further, fueled by a wild punk energy and nonconformist spirit. These songs kick and flail; they bounce and riot, refusing to be tied down.
Warning – Rituals Of Shame
Twenty years have passed, and Patrick Walker is still the king of sadness. Warning’s comeback album Rituals Of Shame is a true doom metal elegy, a heartbreaking lament that carries its melancholy as its biggest strength. If wistfulness had a voice, it would be Walker’s as it cuts through the mellow musical backdrop and right into our souls. It’s the kind of heaviness that isn’t rooted in aggression but in absolute fragility and sincerity.
Truck Violence – The weathervane is my body
Maybe you have to be a bit of a masochist to enjoy the anxious, erratic vibe of The weathervane is my body. The second album of Canada’s Truck Violence fuses sludgy noise rock with post-hardcore and folk. Their songs and poetry are a manifestation of the struggle for direction and meaning in modern-day life – chaos, frustration and collapse guaranteed.
